About me

Foundation.

I grew up in the 80’s when the personal computer or PC were still novelty appliances in the home and learning them meant, learning to tinker and learning a bit of programming. I was exposed to a number of different PCs through my teenage years and therefore a natural interest developed.

Because of this interest, after completing year 10, I went straight to TAFE to complete a certificate in computers followed imediately by an Associate Diploma in Business Computing. Before I had even completed my associate diploma I commenced study at University of Tasmania in Launceston in Applied Computing. This was completed by 1995 by which time I was also working as a programmer.

More Recent Years.

After having some time away from the Information Technology (IT) industry, I commenced my own business in the Burnie/Wynyard area as a computer Technician. Working mostly in homes but also for small businesses solving all kinds of computer problems. I did this for about 4 years.

In mid 2010 I moved my family down to southern Tasmania to Work at Vodafone Hutchison Australia as a 2nd and 3rd level Technician, solving technical problems over the phone, through email and social media. This gave me much experience not only IPhones, Android, Blackberry, and other phones, but also fixing mobile broadband connections with both Windows and Mac PCs.

After Vodafone, I worked in my Father’s business, Avoca Roadhouse near the east coast of Tasmania. Once again this involved general computer work, but the bigest project involved setting up a Point of Sale (POS) system which included the hardware for 2 cash register terminals, a backend server and a laptop for entering and editing stock.

And Now.

I am still working with the Avoca Roadhouse but have moved back down to southern Tasmania. Based in Cygnet. I am once again starting my own business as a computer technician. Serving not only the Huon Valley but Hobart also.

Over the years I have developed an interest in the gnu/Linux operating system and all things open source. Linux has been my main operating system of choice for many years, (with a short hiatus with Mac’s). If you don’t know what Linux is, you can find out more about it here.

As you can see, I have broad experience with many different systems and it doesn’t matter whether it runs on Windows or a Mac OSX or Linux, I can help. Also it doesn’t matter if it is a server, desktop, laptop, tablet; IPhone, Android or the latest Internet Of Things (IOT) gadget I can help!
